In 1995 Rosebie Morton started planting garden roses
and herbs in the walled garden of her Hampshire farm. Her aim
was to develop and grow a range of scented garden roses, flowers
and herbs with all of the natural charm, character and heady scent,
so often lost in mass-produced varieties.
Tim Hobbs met Rosebie in 1998. Tim was the owner of
a farm in Nanyuki, Kenya and was looking for new ideas to develop
on his farm. The climate in Kenya is perfect for outdoor grown
roses and Tim and Rosebie saw the opportunity for a year round
supply if they joined forces.
In the early days, the business started selling
flowers directly to florists and floral designers throughout the
country who would use them for wedding and event work.
In 2003 Karen Watson discovered the farms when
she was looking for a source of old fashioned scented garden roses
for a flower shop she was looking to open which was to
specialise in roses. She had worked in the fashion industry for
many years and had recently left her role as a Buying Director
for the specialist store Harvey Nichols where she had
worked for 10 years. Having cultivated a cutting garden
in amongst the vegetables on her award winning allotment ,
Karen had re-trained as a florist and had set up in business
serving clients across the fashion, music and publishing
sector.
Karen, Rosebie and Tim met up and soon realised
that they all shared the same passion; to bring natural, scented,
fresh garden roses, perfumed flowers, cut herbs and seasonal
foliage back to a market that had lost touch with the beauty
of real flowers. The Real Flower Company was
established.
We've come a long way since we started out on this
journey to bring scent and provenance back into the world of cut
flowers, our company is dedicated to the
small scale production of flowers that will fill your senses with
their unique look, texture and exquisite scent. From tilling, to
planting and harvesting, every bed is tended by hand. All stems are
individually selected, cut, prepared and tied by the people who
grow them, ensuring the highest quality at every stage, from
planting through to the beautifully finished bunches.
