The Story of David Austin Roses

In the early 1950s, world-renowned rose breeder David Austin began his mission to create a more beautiful rose. Seventy years on the objective remains the same. David Austin has bred and curated a unique collection of roses especially for weddings, events and floral gifts - each rose in this collection has its own signature characteristics. Rose breeding is often considered an art as well as a science but above all David Austin pride themselves on their collective style. A David Austin rose can take up to ten years to develop and refine before it becomes part of the collection.

The David Austin Iconic Wedding Rose Collection

Each rose in the David Austin collection has a unique personality but shares the David Austin signature style. As a David Austin rose begins to open and unfurl, they often reveal surprising, subtle shifts in form, texture and colour, which further enhance their charm. Juliet is David Austin’s signature rose and a wedding favourite. She has a unique luminous peach tone and generous shapely blooms. Kiera takes centre stage in our ‘ready-to-wear’ collection of wedding flowers. Each of Kiera’s blooms are slightly different and range in colour from clotted cream to the prettiest blush with a distinctive swirling of blossom pink in the centre. David Austin is also known for deeper-toned roses: deep raspberry Darcey, red velvet Tess and striking fuchsia Kate are all favourites with our team here at The Real Flower Company.

Sustainably Grown

David Austin’s wedding and event roses are grown by a small number of hand-picked farms throughout the world. We are David Austin’s chosen UK cut-stem supplier and all of our David Austin roses are grown on our sister farm, Tambuzi in Kenya. David Austin’s aim is to work with farms that can supply their wedding and event roses throughout the year: being close to the equator, Tambuzi has perfect natural climatic conditions. Tambuzi continuously strive to achieve the highest possible social and environmental standards and have been awarded a Gold Star Carbon Neutral certification by a pioneering UN scheme. They have a LEAF Marque for sustainable farming among many other accreditations and accolades.
