The RHS Chelsea Flower Show started with our founder and flower farmer, Rosebie Morton, being interviewed by Chris Evans for BBC Radio 2. “The importance of buying locally grown English and Fairtrade flowers was talked about more than ever at Chelsea this year,” says Hana, our event designer. “People really want to know where their flowers have come from and that they have been responsibly grown. It’s always so wonderful to introduce people to the scented roses, sweet peas, English wildflowers and herbs from our farms.”

We’re so proud of Hana and Becky, our lead florist, for creating our beautiful stand. We also have to thank Darren for his fantastic construction skills. It was brilliant to have their hard work recognised by winning the highly coveted, highest commendation of five gold stars from the RHS Chelsea judges. “It’s always impossible to get a feel for how well you’ve done at the time because the judges don’t give anything away,” says Hana. “But we are absolutely over the moon to have been given five stars. It’s a real career highlight for me.”

All the early mornings and late nights of hard work seemed worthwhile when we watched people stopping to smell our roses. We were told time and time again that people could not believe they were real. “People often seemed to think that the actual flowers were silk rather than real because they are so used to tight-budded Dutch supermarket roses,” says Hana. Many of the passers-by instantly chose their own favourite – from Margaret Merril with her classic scent and elegant white blooms to the vibrant fuchsia tones and heady aroma of David Austin’s Kate.
